The recent Mardi Gras Pancake Supper was well attended and deemed a success by partner organizers from Grace Episcopal and First Methodist churches. After having been cancelled each year over the past several years due to the pandemic, as well as a reduction in volunteers at Grace, the supper this year had fresh input and energy due to the participation of First Methodist helpers.

The community is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony planned for Thursday, Feb. 29 at 5 p.m. for the new book vending machine located at Southside Elementary and purchased with grant funds from Sparklight secured by Together for Hope located in Lake Providence. Students will be able to earn tokens for positive behavior and then use the token in the machine to select a book. Students will be able to keep this book and grow their own libraries at home, according to Leah Lucas, organizer with Together for Hope. Mr. and Miss Southside have been given the honor of cutting the ribbon next Thursday. The event coincides with Southside’s Learning Night where students of the month will be the first to use the machine.

General Trass High School recently held its Senior/Parent Night. Amariyah Carraway, Lady Panthers basketball senior, is the daughter of Latricia Carraway.
