Now that Constitution Week 2026 has come to a close, take a moment to read the first 10 amendments. They are only a few paragraphs long, but they describe freedoms that have shaped our nation for more than two centuries.

Ride around East Carroll Parish, especially in town, and there can be no doubt that it is election season, given the amount of yard signs, posters, and small billboards posted in yards, at intersections, and in front of or on buildings.

The East Carroll Parish Library last week hosted 11 additional parishes at the annual Trailblazer consortium trustee meeting. East Carroll is one of 12 parishes that comprise a consortium formed to share digital resources.

Sports headlines were full of screamers earlier this week: “Iowa Stuns Michigan at The Big House!” “Golding questions Ole Miss after 'butt whupping' at Florida” “Happy Valley wasn’t very happy for Penn State”. And the Superdome was a sad place after the Raiders handed the Saints a loss Sunday.

Maybe it was just me, but there seemed to be a lot going on this week in Lake Providence. Of course, that’s not a bad thing. I was invited to Griffin Southside Lower Upper Elementary School with the Moses Shelby Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution for a presentation in honor of Constitution Week. DAR member Olivia Condrey along with Johna Buntyn, Carolyn Brown, and Jeannie Ramsey, gave a very informative presentation to the students. Of course, some of them already knew a lot on the subject and were quick with the answers to questions regarding their country’s history. Moses Shelby gave the presentation to both fifth grade classes at GLUE and the fifth grade class at Briarfield Academy. They also presented each of the students with a bag of historical memorabilia for them to take home and learn more about Constitution Week.

Louisiana beverage companies are expanding ingredient transparency for consumers through the nationwide rollout of Good to Know, a first-of-its-kind digital platform that provides easy-to-understand information about beverage ingredients. This platform helps consumers make informed decisions about the products they want to buy and their ingredients.
