Friday night brought a hint of fall weather and a long-awaited first win for the General Trass Panthers. In the 19th Annual Battle of the Big Cats, General Trass defeated Madison Parish High School 44-0 and retained the coveted Big Cat trophy.

The Briarfield Academy Lady Rebels honored their sole senior on September 8, before shutting out Tensas Academy. Ainsley experienced her first championship with the Lady Rebels as the bat girl in fifth grade.

The Rebel offense proved to be too much for the Tensas Chiefs defense on Friday night. The Rebels won the game in decisive fashion, 62-8. The win was the home team’s fourth in a row after dropping the season opener, pushing their record to 4-1 on the season. In the win streak, the Rebel offense has averaged nearly 42 points per game.

Friday night at General Trass High School was about more than football. As the Panthers hosted the Rayville Hornets last Friday, General Trass also took time to recognize the men and women who serve the community in times of need.

September is National Rice Month, making it the perfect time to celebrate one of Louisiana's most important agricultural commodities. Louisiana farmers have been producing rice for generations, and the state consistently ranks among the top rice-producing states in the nation. Rice contributes significantly to Louisiana's economy and serves as a staple ingredient in many of the foods that define our state's unique culinary heritage.

The General Trass Panthers opened the regular season Friday night at Hamely/Collins Field, hosting the Richwood Rams from the Monroe area. The Panthers entered the game following preseason action against Lincoln Preparatory School and Arcadia at last week’s jamboree.

Briarfield traveled to Vicksburg to take on the Porter’s Chapel Eagles Friday night. The first half looked to be the beginning of a blowout. The Rebels were able to find paydirt twice before the Eagles ever got the ball. The boys took a 24-0 lead into the locker room at half.

August was a good month for local football star, Wydett Williams, Jr. This past weekend, he received word that he had officially made the roster of the Arizona Cardinals. “Ju-nior,” as he is affectionately known by family and friends, is now a professional football player with the NFL.

In the first home game of the season for the Rebels, Briarfield was able to pull away late for the win over Humphreys Academy, 34-20. Humphreys opened the game with a long touchdown run; the two-point conversion failed.

Prairie View Academy got on the board first in the matchup with Briarfield. But the Lady Rebels flipped the game in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-2.
