Police jurors hear of vehicles out of order

The sanitation department of East Carroll Parish Police Jury is plagued by broken down equipment, pushing the garbage pickup last week back two days with Monday’s Labor Day holiday. President of the sanitation committee, Juror Kofi Darden, said that sanitation workers would likely need overtime pay to catch up on pickups. Fred Threats, sanitation manager, said they were doing all they could to get trucks up and running and finish the job. Broken-down equipment is plaguing the jury as a whole. A front end loader, haul truck, chip spreader, trackhoe, backhoe, two grass cutters, and garbage trucks – all mentioned in the meeting as “down.” Roger Clement, roads and drainage committee chairman, said equipment down time is mostly a result of glitches in the new technology and electronics in the machines, rather than their age.
