Aldermen set date for public hearing to consider budgets

The financial outlook for the Town of Lake Providence continues to be worrisome, according to Mayor Bobby Amacker, who last week delivered to the board of aldermen a budget message before offering ordinances to amend last year’s budget and to adopt a budget for next fiscal year.

Budget Message Town of Lake Providence

This will be the 14th time I have presented a budget to the city council beginning in May of 1999, and I have never seen one so out of balance as this one. The amended budget shows that we will have to transfer $373,000.00 to balance the general fund budget. Transferring this amount of money out of the utility fund is unsustainable and we cannot allow it to happen again.

ARRESTS

Arrests as of May 21, 2024: East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office: 5/16/24 - Andra Cooks, 20, was arrested on aggravated burglary, simple burglary, two counts of criminal damage to property, two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and theft of criminal access of an automated teller machine. Bond has been set for $38,000 for the first incident, and are pending on the second incident.
