Calendar to be approved by school staff

You certainly can’t say that the East Carroll Parish School Board isn’t a democracy. Two tentative schedules for the 2026-2027 school year were presented to the school board at its regular meeting last Tuesday by Meagan Brown, superintendent, who told the board that the one preferred by the majority of the school’s employees, both teachers and administrative staff, would be adopted.

Prom at Briarfield Academy

The expansive front landscape of Briarfield Academy was transformed into a western oasis last Saturday for the school’s annual prom. The country and western scene carried into a checkered dance floor as high school students and their dates dressed in formals and suits enjoyed a steak dinner with all the trimmings. Senior honors were announced (photos and information will be available next week) as the graduating class enjoyed their last prom together.

This week’s focus is all about maintaining health and wellness on any budget—and the good news is, it’s absolutely possible!

New phone number for DCFS

The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) launched this week a new customer service number designed to make it easier for Louisiana residents to reach the department for assistance. Residents will be able to call: 877-7LADCFS (877752-3237) for child support services, child welfare assistance, and other DCFS inquiries. Hours of operation for the line will be 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
