Wood Doc receives fest's high honor

Lee Toney answered the phone over the sound of the machinery in his wood shop. He was busy making more bowls after nearly selling out at New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival last weekend. While he walked away without most of his inventory, he did carry a banner naming him the Best of Show in the Louisiana Marketplace. Each Louisiana maker accepted into the festival, which this year was 12 out of 120 who applied, is judged by the quality of their work, its uniqueness, its presentation, among other criteria. The Wood Doc from Lake Providence was the winner. “I was surprised and honored, even as I kind of expected it,” said Toney. Toney now sells his wares at stores in Lafayette and New Orleans, as well as here in town. He is looking forward to having his booth all set up again, and restocked, at Levee Festival this Saturday. “I’m proud to be part of this festival here at home,” he said. Congratulations, Wood Doc, and thank you for representing Lake Providence so well.
