With its tax millage expiring in 2026, the East Carroll Parish Hospital Board of Commissioners focused on the announcement of an intent to call an election on November 3 for a 10.57 tax millage rate. The prospective resolution is scheduled to be presented and passed by the board on May 28, at its regular monthly meeting.

The East Carroll Community Action Agency is announcing the availability of funds to assist eligible low-income households through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This federally funded program helps households with their home energy expenses.

The four water systems in East Carroll received letter grades last week, and Lake Providence received a B grade, while Monticello and East Carroll North received B grades, and East Carroll South received a C grade.

On April 15, 2026, a federal grand jury in Lafayette returned a four-count indictment charging Kelsi J. McDaniel, a 29-year-old Lake Providence resident, with one count of embezzling from the East Carroll Parish Housing Authority (“ECPHA”) and three counts of concealment money laundering relating to that embezzlement. McDaniel faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison for the federal program theft charge, up to 20 years in federal prison for the money laundering charges, and three years of supervised release for each count.

Early voting for the May 16 election began Saturday with confusion over whether all the races listed on the ballot are still taking place. Even motivated voters who showed up within the first few hours said they weren’t quite sure whether the U.S.

Local high schools, Briarfield Academy and General Trass High School, will both hold graduation ceremonies tomorrow night. Briarfield’s Head of School Lisa Walters has announced that the school will host its graduation ceremony at 6 p.m.

Tomorrow is a busy day for high school graduates and their families as General Trass High School and Briarfield Academy confer diplomas to a total of more than 60 young people, sending them on to their next great adventures in life.
