New courthouse? Jury weighing options

East Carroll Parish police jurors and local officials are awaiting assessments from architects and engineers before learning the answer to a very important question for the parish: is the current courthouse fixable, or is there the need to construct a brand new courthouse? One thing is certain, says Senator Katrina Jackson- Andrews, the lack of accessibility for citizens will be immediately addressed.

Police jury discusses award of water funds

A fair and equitable division of the Community Water Enrichment Fund (CWEF) dominated the short regular monthly meeting of the East Carroll Parish Police Jury last Tuesday, December 9. With a total allocation of $156,000, the police jury struggled with which of the three water systems needed the most assistance. President Kendall Thompson suggested that they split the money, with 50% going to the town and 25% going to the East Carroll Water System, or Transylvania, and 25% going to the Monticello Water System.

Lee Broussard marked his 100th birthday

Lee Broussard marked his 100th birthday with a trip to the World War II Museum in New Orleans where he received special attention as a Louisiana veteran who stood on the deck of the USS Missouri for the signing of the end of the war with the surrender of the Japanese. He also was able to see in person his journal from his time in the Navy, which he donated to the museum, and is showcased along with a photo of him in uniform. Broussard was feted further with a party at Barker Hall following a mass in his honor last Saturday, December 6. Local friends and family as well as family who drove and flew long distances, some of them to meet him for the first time, gathered and sang happy birthday to a real hero. Happy Birthday Mr. Lee from all of us at East Carroll Banner, and congratulations on such a milestone. Recently, Mr. Lee was featured on Briarfield Academy’s podcast “Beyond Briarfield.” Search for the podcast wherever you get yours, and look for Episode 8.
