The East Carroll Parish School Board adopted its budgets for the 2025-2026 school year at a special meeting on Friday, Sept. 12. In addition to the general fund budgets, the budgets for Griffin-Southside Lower and Upper Elementary School and General Trass High School were also adopted.

Once again, we had to go to the tiebreaker to name a winner in East Carroll Banner’s football contest. Bryson Rachal, who was a top-spot picker last week, appeared again this week as one of three winners, along with Jim Lensing and Jamie Fortenberry. Rachal is now leading the contest in overall picks as we enter week three.

Is it just me or does time seem to be flying? September - and school - seems to have just started and yet there is so much going on. The West Carroll Home Health Agency held a retirement party for Tina Welborne Whatley.

Lake Providence residents have a new restaurant to choose from as of this week. AJ’s Eatz opened its doors officially Tuesday at 2 p.m., and began a full day, including breakfast, lunch and dinner yesterday morning. On Saturday at 10 a.m., it will hold a grand opening and kick off what owners Arndrei Johnson and Stoney Johnson Jr. promise to be a memorable hometown dining experience.

The first health fair sponsored by the East Carroll Parish Hospital since COVID-19 was a resounding success, said LaDonna Englerth, hospital administrator. Over 125 participants attended the event, taking advantage of various medical testing procedures, free information and giveaways, and a good lunch.
