Since it was time for our regular profile on an East Carroll cook, there was no better place to look for a good cook and a good recipe than a school cafeteria. So with two new ladies at the helm and two seasoned workers leading them to success, I knew that Briarfield Academy would be a good place to find some great food. There are four workers: Connie Russell, the cafeteria manager, Casey McGaha, assistant manager, Dorothy Kelly, and last, but certainly not least, Overa Newton.

Louisiana State Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews and her entire entourage made a surprise stop at the East Carroll Council on Aging last Thursday, bringing gifts, door prizes and lunch, to an appreciative group of seniors. Jackson-Andrews said that there were nine councils on aging in her district, and she liked to visit them all at least once a year.

Out of the three committee meetings and one special public meeting scheduled for Monday morning, only the sanitation committee meeting was actually held. Randy Walters, Lloyd Whaley, and Roger Clement were all absent at the committee meetings and the special meeting.

Happy October and Fall 2025! We are reminding all of you about the Make A Difference Day 2025 Christmas Elderly Project. Our grant application to NELPCO (Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative, which sponsors Operation Roundup) was approved in early September.

Good Thursday morning, everyone. I am looking forward to getting out of daylight savings time, although I know you afternoon people like it. We will officially get back to regular time on November 2, so we have got about three weeks left.

Jackson Benton Densmore Jack is the 17-year-old son of Kristin Herrington and Kennith Densmore. He has been on the football team for four years and the track team for two.

Donnie Meadows presided over his first meeting as president of the East Carroll Parish Council on Aging at its regular meeting Thursday, September 25, as the board seated its new officers and approved committee members for the upcoming year.

Briarfield Academy will celebrate its homecoming tomorrow beginning with the presentation of the court in a ceremony at 1 p.m. on the school’s front lawn. Following the crowning of the queen, naming of the 2025 football captains, and a pep rally by the cheerleaders, a parade will follow from the school, around 2 p.m. See page 5 for a map of the parade route. The theme for this year’s event is 'Hometown Homecoming,' celebrating everything Lake Providence.
