Good morning, everyone. Well, school started this week. Whether that was welcomed depended on whether you ask the kids and teachers or the parents. But everyone was squeezing in just a few more days of summer vacation in the past week.

This past Friday and Saturday were lovely days for a softball tournament - not. It was so hot. The Briarfield Academy Lady Rebel fans sweltered on the sidelines, but if the players were affected by the heat you couldn’t tell it from the way they played. This very young team played some ball and finished second in the tournament. This is the team with Mike. Mike is the unofficial mascot, and he stays in the dugout with the girls. He doesn’t make it to base very often, but he does seem to motivate the girls, and gives everyone else a good chuckle. On to next week where they will be in Riverfield.

It really was a week of lazy, hazy days of summer this past week. There didn't seem to be a lot going on. Of course, sometimes no news is good news. But there is a little good news. The library can always be counted on to give us good news.

Alyssa Jewel Bowers of Lake Providence graduated during University of Louisiana at Lafayette spring 2026 commencement exercises earlier this month. She received a degree in nursing and health sciences.
