Arrests/Charges/Updates

The Sixth Judicial Court was in session last week and was slated to hear several cases that involved felonies with long prison sentences if convictions were secured.

The district attorney’s office announced that they were convening a special grand jury session on December 19, 2023, to hear these cases. The grand jury has 12 members, and nine must vote to approve a true bill indictment. The following cases are scheduled to be heard on December 19: Alphonso Lewis was scheduled for a preliminary hearing, but his attorney was not present. Lewis has been arrested on the charges of Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes, Aggravated Battery, four counts of child pornography, computer solicitation of a minor, and indecent behavior with a juvenile. Lewis is currently being held at Riverbend Detention Center on $350,000 bond.

Frederick Kelly and his brother, Carlos Mosby, were arrested and charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder. Both are currently out on $50,000 bond. The grand jury will determine if there is enough evidence to obtain a true bill so that the case can go forward to trial.

Kernel Benard was arrested and charged with felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile and is currently being held on $50,000.
