Arrests/Charges/Updates

The Sixth Judicial District Court was in session last week and among the items on the docket were several cases of probation revocations and arraignments.

Several people who had been placed on misdemeanor probation came before the court on revocation recommendations by their probation officer for failure to fulfill the terms of their probation, ranging from failure to meet with the probation officer monthly, as well as not paying their fines and probation fees.

Adolphus Young was found to be in violation of his probation and he was ordered to serve six months in jail. A purge order was put in place, giving him until January 5, 2024, to pay all fines, probation fees, and court costs or the revocation would be final.

Iris Thompson was found to be in violation of her probation for failure to pay fines, court costs, and fees, as well as not maintaining her scheduled monthly meeting with her probation officer. She was ordered into custody with a purge order stating she has until December 21, 2023, to pay $668 or the revocation would be final. Thompson was released after the full amount was paid to the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Antraneka Shelton was found to be in violation of the terms of her probation for failure to meet with her probation officer and for having a delinquent debt of $1768. That amount includes fines, court costs, and probation fees. Shelton had a purge order put in place that gave her until December 21, 2023 to pay the amount owed in full or else the revocation would be final. She was released after the amount was paid.

In other court news, Kerry Brown Jr. pled guilty to an amended charge of criminal mischief and his sentence was deferred until 2/1/24. Brown’s original charge was principal to second degree murder. He was also charged with resisting arrest, but that charge was dismissed as part of the plea agreement. He was ordered to pay a fine of $250 plus $100 cost of prosecution.

Ford Jones pled not guilty to the charges of domestic abuse battery and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He received a court appointed attorney while incarcerated, but later bonded out on a $30,000 bond. Bonding out on high bonds requires that defendants hire attorneys. The matter was continued.

Jurico Mitchell pled not guilty to illegal use of a weapon and illegal carrying of a weapon. His trial was set for 3/4/24.

Robert Clark has pleaded not guilty to the charge of attempted second degree murder. Discovery of the evidence in his case has been provided to his attorney and a protective order was put in place ordering Clark to stay away from the victim.

Felecia Glover rejected a plea deal from the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. She has been charged with theft of $1000 or more, and has pleaded guilty in the case. The case has been continued.

Devin Knight has been charged with obstruction of justice but it was announced that the case is pending investigation.
