A special session for an East Carroll Parish Grand Jury convened last Wednesday to hear five cases presented by the Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. The grand jury returned true bill indictments against two people, no true bill against two people, and one pretermit.
A true bill indictment was returned against James Penaill Jones for second degree murder. The victim in the case was Tarnesha Sheppard. Jones was initially charged with aggravated battery and domestic abuse battery, but the charge was changed after Sheppard passed away as a result of her injuries in May.
A true bill indictment was returned against Alphonso Lewis for four counts of pornography involving a juvenile; one count of computer aided solicitation of a minor; indecent behavior of a juvenile; trafficking of children for sexual purposes.
A pretermit was returned in the case against Earnest Lyons involving an alleged sexual battery. Pretermit is a legal term meaning that any action taken is being suspended or put off, pending certain evidence or information requested.
No true bill was returned against Fredrick Kelly and Carlos Mosby. The brothers were arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder. The charges against them are now dismissed.

12/21/23 - Malissa Brown, 38, was arrested on a theft warrant for West Carroll Parish. She is being held at Riverbend Detention Center on $10,000.
12/24/23 - Zerian Sparks, 19, was arrested for attempted second degree murder and unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling. No bond has been set in this case.
12/24/23 - TaKesha Branch, 32, was charged with second degree aggravated battery. No bond has been set in this case.
12/25/23 - James Robinson, 54, was arrested for simple criminal damage to property and criminal damage to property. He has no bond in this case.
12/25/23 - Tylan Shaw, 18, was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon. No bond has been set in this case.
12/25/2023 - Aubrey Nash Jr., 19, was arrested and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon and flight from an officer. No bond has been set in this case.
