The East Carroll Parish School community is celebrating several points of recognition related to school performance scores announced last week.

The district was named the most improved in the state, according to the Louisiana State Department of Education. East Carroll improved overall from a D letter grade with 55.2 points in 2022 to a C letter grade and 62.2 points, a total of seven points. (see chart on page 6) Also, Southside Elementary was named the fourth most improved K-8 school in the state, increasing its score 15 points from 2022. It moved from an F grade in 2022 with 35.6 points to a D grade with 50.6.

The other schools in the district also improved their year-overyear scores. Griffin Middle Academy maintained an F grade but increased its points by 4.2 from 38.5 to 42.7. General Trass maintained its B grade and improved its point count 4.6 over last year, from 77.8 to 82.4 in 2023.

“I’m really, really excited about that,” Meagan Brown, superintendent, told the East Carroll School board at its meeting last week.

Brown pointed out that the district being on the most improved list is the one she’s most excited about, in addition to Southside’s achievement. “That’s the list our state superintendent says you want to be on because it shows that you’re making continual progress,” said Brown. “And that’s what we hope to do in working together with our instructional leadership team. Progress is the key factor here.”
