Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Lake Providence Watershed Council along with the East Carroll Bass Club are teaming up to create fish attractors from recycled Christmas trees in Lake Providence. The trees provide ideal protection for small fish and attract larger fish such as crappie, bream, and bass. The trees should be especially attractive in the lake since there is very little aquatic vegetation to provide for basic habitat needs of these species. The fish attractors will be placed in different depths and locations throughout the lake, with signage and GPS coordinates made known to the public. Also needed are cinderblocks to help in sinking the trees; donations very welcome. Please drop your trees off at the designated area located at the Schneider Lane boat landing near the airport by January 10.
