At-large suspect now in custody

The last suspect in a shooting that occurred in January was taken into custody at midnight, Sunday night, February 8. Nineteen-yearold DeMarcus Reynolds was discovered at the home of his sister on Harding Street hiding underneath a bed in the residence.

Local named to honor's list

Wydett Williams, of Lake Providence, was named to the University of Mississippi's Fall 2025 Honor Roll lists. Williams, in the B.M.D.S.

than 4,000 meals were served to East Carroll Parish residents by the American Red Cross during Winter Storm Fern. Lana Haire, Louisiana American Red Cross representative, was the guest speaker last Tuesday, February 10, at the monthly Lake Providence chapter of AARP meeting.

Drowned man found in Lake Providence

The body of a 24-year-old Lake Providence man was pulled from Lake Providence last Tuesday, February 3. East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Investigator Karvan Powell said that his office received a call at 8:41 a.m. Tuesday morning reporting the disappearance of the man, whose name is being withheld out of respect for the family.

Governor seeks more federal disaster aid after winter storm

Like his counterparts in Tennessee and Mississippi, Gov. Jeff Landry is seeking more federal funding for recovery from the winter storm that shut down north Louisiana at the end of January. Landry asked President Donald Trump to grant a major disaster declaration, which should allow the state and local governments to receive more federal dollars for cleanup from the deep freeze. The governor wants the federal government to cover all costs for snow assistance and debris removal for 30 days. Landry is specifically asking for resources to cover public costs in Bienville, DeSoto, East Carroll, Franklin, Morehouse, Ouachita, Richland, Tensas and West Carroll parishes.

Town seeks bids for cleanup

The Lake Providence Board of Aldermen approved a request for proposal (RFP) to be issued upon a declaration by FEMA related to damages and repairs after Winter Storm Fern. Mayor Bobby Amacker said that the public hearing was to let the public know where the town is going with its cleanup efforts.

Jurors have no financials at meeting

The committees of the East Carroll Parish Police Jury met Monday with the primary discussion point being the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern. None of the committees were able to provide financial reports, due to the fact that Cindy Thomason, a CPA with Allen, Green and Wilkinson who normally compiles the reports, is not currently working on behalf of the Police Jury.

School board declares emergency, wrestles with insurance

The East Carroll Parish School Board held a special meeting last Friday to respond to damage caused by Winter Storm Fern, focusing on insurance renewals, repair efforts, and the formal declaration of an emergency.
