Honors go to local students

Ninety-seven LSU Law students have been named Dean’s Scholars for their academic achievement in the Fall 2025 semester. The Dean’s Scholar is awarded to the top 25% of LSU Law students earning 12 or more credits during an individual semester. Congratulations to Kiley Frances Condrey, a first-year student, for earning this academic achievement. Kiley is the daughter of Jason and Kathleen Condrey of Lake Providence.

DOTD to begin storm cleanup

East Carroll is one of nine parishes where the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will begin its emergency tree debris removal project along all state highways. The other parishes are Union, Lincoln, Jackson, Ouachita, Richland, Morehouse, West Carroll and Madison.

Escape from Riverbend creates search and ends in recapture

Eight inmates awaiting trial on various charges have been apprehended and returned to custody after escaping early Friday morning from the RiverBend Detention Center. Savion Wheeler, 31, Hugo Molina, 27, Trenton Taplin, 29, Kolin Loney, 21, Kevin Slaughter Jr., 25, Destin Brogan, 22, Krisean Salinas, 21, and Kopelon Vicknair, 19, were all transported to Angola after being recaptured at various locations. All eight of the inmates will be charged with simple escape in addition to other charges they allegedly committed while on the run.

Local man shows bravery

Zach Frasier was not trying to be a hero. He just did, as he said, what he hoped anyone would do. While driving to his mother’s home with his wife, Mandie, he spotted a person in the yard of his mother’sneighbor’shome. He watched as the person went into the neighbor’s bushes and then slowly lowered, as if not waning to be seen.
