Spring has sprung and is such a busy time of the year. Honestly though, I think every season is busy anymore! Preparing family meals can sometimes seem an impossible task with everything going on. That’s where prepping freezer meals for your slow cooker can really come in handy. If you love using a slow cooker to prepare meals while you are at work or activities, you are really going to love having freezer meals prepped for the slow cooker!

Last month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics celebrated National Nutrition Month, a campaign dedicated to helping individuals make informed food choices and build healthy eating habits. This week’s focus is all about maintaining health and wellness on any budget—and the good news is, it’s absolutely possible!

The expansive front landscape of Briarfield Academy was transformed into a western oasis last Saturday for the school’s annual prom. The country and western scene carried into a checkered dance floor as high school students and their dates dressed in formals and suits enjoyed a steak dinner with all the trimmings. Senior honors were announced (photos and information will be available next week) as the graduating class enjoyed their last prom together.

As a row crop farmer in St. Joseph, Mo., Joe Lau said he’s noticing more extreme weather these days.

For the 10th year in a row, East Carroll Parish has lost population. In July of 2024, The United States Census showed the parish with a total population of 6,892. One year later, in 2025, the population had decreased by 132 residents, down to 6,760 people.

Oh, Easter. Such a joyous occasion. And so much fun seeing everyone in their Sunday best. I wasn’t sure anyone still stuck to the tradition of new outfits and adornment for Easter Sunday. It was a given at our house. We might not get anything else, but our mother made us a new dress for Easter Sunday, and we thought we looked good. We felt pretty. And in the photos I have seen, some of these Lake Providence folk clean up pretty good. I’m going to share a few of the pictures with y’all.

When a beloved plant isn’t doing well in the garden, it can feel a bit like dealing with a sick pet or young child. They can’t tell you what is wrong — but that doesn’t stop you from wanting to help them get better.
