Sheriff asks for help in search for EC teacher

The disappearance of a local teacher is being treated as a missing persons case by the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office. Tystin White, sheriff’s investigator, said that his office was following every lead in attempting to locate Carlton Keyon Osborn, who was last seen on or before December 23 of last year.

School board members complete certification

Four of the East Carroll Parish School Board members were recognized and received a certificate of merit from the Louisiana School Boards Association at their regular meeting last Monday, January 6. Jackie Folks, Wanda Jackson, David Norris, and Shirley Fairchild all received recognition as certified board members after completing a one year in-service training program which included workshops, seminars and conventions. The enhanced knowledge training was designed to develop skills needed to contribute to higher standards of elected public school board members. To attain the certification, board members had to complete twenty or more learning units.

Church honors civil rights work of King

The annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. program will be held on Monday, Jan. 19 at Progressive Chapel Baptist Church beginning at 6 p.m. Musical guest is the Bloomy Shade Baptist Church of West Carroll Parish under the direction of Mr. Tyrone Coleman.

Celebrating the lives of East Carroll residents

Was it just me or did it seem like there was a lot going on last week? I guess I had just gotten used to being lazy because over the holidays, I didn’t do much. I worked hard up until the time of the holidays, but then I just kind of took it easy.

Local pilot Barry Boyette

Local pilot Barry Boyette received the Farrell Keahey Lifetime Achievement Award at the Louisiana Agricultural Aviation Association conference held last week in Lake Charles. Boyette, who recently retired as owner and operator of Carroll Flying Service in Lake Providence, is now flying corporate aviation. In addition to receiving the award, Boyette celebrated his birthday on January 7 while at the conference. Local pilots also in attendance to help Boyette celebrate were from left: Bradley Ferrell, Jake Perry, the current owner of Carroll Flying Service, Lamar Perry, and Boyette. All four men are either current or former pilots with Carroll Flying Service.
