Young leaders, big hearts

The Henderson Project 4-H Community Club recently demonstrated the true spirit of service by feeding the homeless in Monroe through a partnership with The Simple Project, an outreach that provides meals, clothing, and compassion to the homeless and less fortunate. The timing of the event was especially meaningful, as November is National Homeless Awareness Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the struggles of those without stable housing and encouraging communities to take action.

A Kickoff Gathering for the newly created Childhood Trauma Awareness Month was hosted last week by the East Carroll Parish Library.

The event featured community leaders, parents, educators, and local advocates, including Dr. Camille Perkins and Stephanie Cobb (above), who shared practical steps families can take to support emotional wellness. “This is just the beginning; I won’t stop here,” Cobb said about the event. “Lake Providence is leading the way showing that small towns can spark big change.”

Nurse practitioners celebrated as frontline health providers

In honor of National Nurse Practitioners Week, November 10-15, the spotlight is on one of East Carroll’s most prized and longest-practicing nurse practitioners. Brenda Miller has worked for the Family Practice Clinic and then the Family Medical Clinic for 25 years. She currently serves as the clinic’s pediatric nurse practitioner. Miller has three sons and seven grandchildren, and says that when she’s not working, you can find her at one of her grandkids’ events.
