HOMECOMING - BRIARFIELD ACADEMY

Briarfield Academy will celebrate its homecoming tomorrow beginning with the presentation of the court in a ceremony at 1 p.m. on the school’s front lawn. Following the crowning of the queen, naming of the 2025 football captains, and a pep rally by the cheerleaders, a parade will follow from the school, around 2 p.m. See page 5 for a map of the parade route. The theme for this year’s event is 'Hometown Homecoming,' celebrating everything Lake Providence.

Fiber cut affects 911 in two states

A recent major 911 outage across Louisiana and Mississippi left residents unable to make emergency calls through the traditional 911 phone system, and in some parishes, unable to call 911 at all. Officials with AT&T, which provides internet connectivity for 911 services in East Carroll and other parishes and counties, said that the widespread 911 outage was caused by six separate fiber optic lines being cut, impacting emergency services in every parish in Louisiana and much of Mississippi for most of Thursday, September 25.
