Congratulations! If you live in Louisiana, you and your home are much more likely to be a target for pests. Louisiana’s hot, wet climate makes the state a breeding ground for numerous pests. What is the number one insect problem in Louisiana? According to an exterminator with J & J Exterminating, one of the largest independent pest control companies in the state, the answer would be mosquitoes. The state’s swamps, marshes, and other waterways, as well as standing water, provide mosquitoes with a perfect breeding ground.

Parish farmers named to leadership program

Three East Carroll Parish farmers have been selected to be in Class XIX of the LSU Agricultural Leadership Program. The leadership class is a two-year program to help agribusiness people understand different roles in agriculture. Local farmer Nicholas Van Mol, one of the farmers selected, said that the two-year program often takes them to other states, and that sometime over the course of the class that they would be making an international agriculture trip. The other two local farmers in Class XIX from East Carroll are Willis Deshaun 'Shun' Nelson Sr. and Nolan Parker.

Recertify for food

Recertification for East Carroll’s mobile food distribution is in progress at First Baptist Church on the following dates: June 23-25, 1 to 3 p.m.; June 26, 10 a.m. to noon; and June 30, 1 to 3 p.m.

School board gets year-end financial report

With a July 1 fiscal year deadline looming, the East Carroll Parish School Board held a special meeting Monday to finish up some last minute updates to policies and discuss budgets to actuals for the month of May.

Town PD to go back to work July 1

Two officers and a secretary will begin employment on July 1 for the Lake Providence Police Department after the board of aldermen passed a budget last week that included their salaries. The 2025-2026 fiscal year begins July 1 and includes about $178,000 for the police department, $65,000 of which is for salaries.
