Despite a lot of rain, I believe everyone is having a great summer so far. There has not been a lack of activities for the kids, thanks to a concerted effort by our local agencies. The East Carroll Parish Library brought back one of its perennial favorites this past Thursday with Harvey Rabbit and Friends. This was the first time I’ve seen Mr. Tim and Ms. Laura in a VERY long time, and they did not disappoint. They kept the children – and the adults – entertained with a variety of magic tricks, puppets, and audience participation. Today is Juneteenth, and there will not be a program, but next Thursday, “All Jazzed Up Reading Program” will conclude with a Poverty Point Presentation.

Arrests as of June 17, 2025: East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office: 6/9/25 – Takeisha Branch, 35, charged with two (2) counts of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Bond set at 20,000.

Summer enrichment activities are being held at the East Carroll Baptist Association, Hwy. 65 South, through July 10 for local children.

The Inspire Him award ceremony will be held Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the East Carroll Parish Library.

The Rainbow Picnic Challenge is a vibrant and educational activity designed to promote healthy eating habits among children. This hands-on summertime experience invites kids to explore the world of fruits and vegetables through color, creativity, and conversation.

Two East Carroll residents were named to the Northwestern State University’s dean’s list for the spring 2025 semester. Students on the dean’s list must be enrolled full time and earn a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.99. The students are Mary Wise of Lake Providence and Cailen Wiltcher of Sondheimer.

A new president was seated, a new board member was elected, and three existing board members were re-elected to a second term at the East Carroll Parish Council on Aging’s annual board meeting last Thursday, June 12.

The East Carroll Parish Police Jury at its meeting last week approved consent agenda items that included pay raises for sanitation and road and drainage employees as recommended by the ways and means committee.
