Local author brings her voice to library

Shellie Tomlinson opened her meet and greet at the East Carroll Parish Library with a host of friends and family, and even a few tears. “This blesses me,” Shellie said, as she looked out at the large group of familiar faces attending a special event with their favorite author. Shellie said that there was nothing like a meet and greet in her home town. “Of course, like everywhere else, you wonder if anyone is going to be there. And here you are. I want to say thank you.” Shellie went on to talk about some of her stories of growing up and her first book, Lessons Learned on Bull Run Road.

Drug bust results in two arrests

East Carroll Parish deputies patrolling Saturday night near the corner of Hood and Blount Streets arrested two suspects on drug and weapon charges. Investigators said that while on patrol, they came across approximately 20 males walking in the area, carrying backpacks, and started following the group.

Eighty years ago on September 2

Eighty years ago on September 2, Lake Providence resident Lee Broussard stood on the deck of the USS Missouri and witnessed the formal surrender of the Japanese, marking the end of World War II. Broussard will fly with his grandson, Jacob Broussard, to Honolulu for a memorial ceremony, joining seven other men who were also there that day in 1945. 'I'm excited and looking forward to seeing how many of my shipmates are still kicking,' he said.

Jury receives money for bridge repairs

At the monthly meeting of the East Carroll Parish Police Jury, jurors sparred over the correct protocol for work done on behalf of the jury, including who may do the work based on qualifications and insurance status, and the cost threshold for needing permission from the entire jury for the work to be done. An outstanding invoice prompted this discussion.
