Goin' on a bear hunt?

The Louisiana Black Bear Hunting Lottery will open to state hunters July 28 and run through Augusy 28, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The hunt, administered by LDWF, will be held in Louisiana Black Bear Management Areas 1, 2 and 4 (which includes East Carroll Parish; see map) from December 6 to December 21, with 26 permits issued, an increase from the 11 permits issued last year.

Repairs close senior center

The East Carroll Council on Aging’s Senior Center and meal site at 600 First St. in Lake Providence will be temporarily closed until August 4, according to Council on Aging Executive Director Evelyn LeBeau.

Muse joins ECB staff to sell ads

East Carroll Banner publishers announce that Mallory Muse has been hired as sales manager for the newspaper. Muse, who lives in Lake Providence, will be responsible for selling advertisements, both for the printed edition and for the website, as well as helping create special advertising opportunitie for upcoming issues..

Some laws take effect August 1

Several new laws are going into effect on August 1 in Louisiana. During the 2025 Regular Legislative Session, Gov. Jeff Landry signed a few bills that would impact crime, drug regulation, higher education, and motor vehicles.

Preparations are in full swing for the Louisiana Soul Food & Heritage Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2, on the grounds of the East Carroll Parish Courthouse.

Celebrating the lives of East Carroll residents

I want to start off my column with a story that touched my heart so much. Mike Coullard is a local businessman in Lake Providence and very well known. I don’t know him personally, but I know his wife, and I have enjoyed keeping up with their sons’ athletic prowess.

EC Baptist Association holds Annual Session

The 128th Annual Session of The East Carroll Baptist Association began with a Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, July 5, sponsored by the Woman's Auxiliary. After a traditional breakfast, the congregation assembled in the sanctuary where Minister Linda Flowers of Monroe, formerly of Lake Providence, spoke on the theme 'The Power of Prayer'.
