Arrests as of June 17, 2025: East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office: 6/9/25 – Takeisha Branch, 35, charged with two (2) counts of introduction of contraband into a penal institution. Bond set at 20,000.

Group offers fun to parish youth

Summer enrichment activities are being held at the East Carroll Baptist Association, Hwy. 65 South, through July 10 for local children.

The Inspire Him award ceremony will be held Saturday, June 28 at 2 p.m. at the East Carroll Parish Library.

The Rainbow Picnic Challenge is a vibrant and educational activity designed to promote healthy eating habits among children. This hands-on summertime experience invites kids to explore the world of fruits and vegetables through color, creativity, and conversation.

Parish students on honors lists

Two East Carroll residents were named to the Northwestern State University’s dean’s list for the spring 2025 semester. Students on the dean’s list must be enrolled full time and earn a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.99. The students are Mary Wise of Lake Providence and Cailen Wiltcher of Sondheimer.

Council on aging elects slate of new officers for the year

A new president was seated, a new board member was elected, and three existing board members were re-elected to a second term at the East Carroll Parish Council on Aging’s annual board meeting last Thursday, June 12.

Low tax collections affect school budget

Problems arising from the loss of revenue during the past fiscal year dominated the discussion at the East Carroll Parish School Board’s regular meeting Tuesday, June 3. School superintendent Meagan Brown informed the board that tax collections by the Concordia Parish School Board, the tax collection agency for East Carroll Parish school system, were catching up, although school funds were still running at a deficit.

Intersection gets upgrade to equipment

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development is asking that motorists take extra precaution at the signal light on the intersection of Lake Street and North Hood while their crews perform an upgrade to the existing traffic light. According to Erin Buchanan, Public Information Officer with DOTD, the work is being conducted by their statewide traffic crews, who travel the state performing these types of operations.

Parish crops thrive after rainy spell

East Carroll Parish farmers began the 2025 planting season facing frequent and persistent rainfall, forcing delays across the board. Week after week of wet weather challenged producers, but determination and patience paid off as all crops were eventually planted.
