Colleges recognize honor students from East Carroll

East Carroll had several college students graduate, and some made honor's lists, as well. Louisiana State University Louisiana State University announced its dean’s list for the 2025 spring semester, as well as its list of graduates.

Celebrating the lives of East Carroll residents

Well, I think we can safely say that summer is officially here. At least, the temperatures are. We've finally had some hot, dry days. Summer school programs, local baseball, and football practice are all starting this week, as well as a number of vacation Bible schools in the parish. Check with local churches for dates. There is something for all the kids, usually starting with Pre-K four.

GTHS sports awards

The General Trass High School athletes were honored with a special banquet on Thursday, May 15, in the school’s cafeteria. After a delicious meal served by the school’s cafeteria workers, coaches for the various sports, under the direction of athletic director Coach Toriano Wells, gave out awards to all of the players.

Hospital recognizes Juneteenth

In a special meeting last Friday, May 30, the East Carroll Parish Hospital Board voted unanimously to add Juneteenth to the list of holidays for its employees. June 19 or “Juneteenth” is a national holiday enacted by President Joe Biden in 2021.

Law affects retirees from sheriff's office

Beginning August 1, East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office (ECPSO) retirees who meet certain criteria will have 100% of their insurance premium payments paid by the sheriff’s office general fund. Legislation signed into law last week by the governor creates rules for eligibility and benefits.

Speed traps?

It looked for a moment that automated speed enforcement cameras in Louisiana might go the way of the Oldsmobile. But what was once an all-out ban on the devices now has an exception that threatens to force the proposal down a dead end.
