The East Carroll Summer Baseball League, under the leadership of Commissioner Coach Keith Hawkins, hosted an exciting day of youth baseball on Sunday, July 20, 2025. The tournament welcomed talented teams from the West Carroll Dixie League and Richland Parish Dixie League for a series of spirited matchups.

LDWF stocks lake to get bigger bass

Lake Providence was one of 56 lakes in Louisiana that was stocked with Florida bass again this summer. 44,300 of the fish were released into the lake by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries. LDWF explains that Florida Bass stocking is not typically performed to increase the abundance of bass in Louisiana waterbodies, but rather to increase the size potential of bass in Louisiana waterbodies.

BA softball off to solid season start

The Briarfield Academy Lady Rebels opened their softball season this past weekend at the Riverfield Tournament in Rayville, losing the first game before taking home two wins. Even though Briarfield collected five hits to Riverfield’s three, they still fell 3-2 on Friday.

Sheriff Wydette Williams and Clerk of Court Renee Williams threw out the first pitch and placed the ball on the tee to officially commence the 2025 Lake Providence Baseball/Softball season at the Eugene Haley Sports Complex Tuesday, June 10. After a one-year absence, organizers Keith Hawkins, Courtney Candler, Aaron Candler, and Jim Crigler saw the need to bring the summer recreational program back.
