Briarfield ends spring sports

Briarfield is typically big winners and spring sports and this year is no different. The baseball team made it to playoffs and the track teams brought home district championship trophies for JV Girls and Boys and Varsity Girls and Boys.

BA TAKES STATE

In 1975, Briarfield boys basketball won the state championship in a down-to-the-wire shot coming from a player who hadn’t been slated to take it. The play had fallen apart, it landed in his hands, and the rest was history. The men on that team told the story to the Briarfield boys basketball team Thursday night before they headed to Marks, Mississippi, to claim the state championship title for the first time in 49 years.

BA teams grab tourney wins

Briarfield’s junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams, both coached by Blake Ratliff, brought home championship trophies from the district tournament held at Riverdale Academy on Saturday. In the final game, which the girls team went straight into as the number 1 seed, they defeated Claiborne Academy 24-23, with Anna Beth Russell and Lila Anne Frith high scorers with 8 points each.
