Calvin Taderious Barnes Calvin is the 17-year-old son of Marita and Calvin Barnes. He has maintained a 4.0 GPA, has been a member of the honor society since 9th grade, and is a dual enrollment student.

HOMECOMING - BRIARFIELD ACADEMY

Briarfield Academy will celebrate its Homecoming tomorrow beginning with the presentation of the court in a ceremony at 1 p.m. on the school’s front lawn. Following the crowning of the queen, naming of the 2024 football captains, and a pep rally by the cheerleaders, a parade will follow from the school (parade map on opposite page).

Brister receives prestigious judges award

Sixth Judicial District Judge Laurie Brister was the recipient of the President’s Award for her service to the Louisiana District Judges Association. Judge Brister was presented the award by the association’s president at its conference on October 6. “It was a huge surprise to me,” the judge said. “I had absolutely no idea.” Judge Brister has served on the executive board for the past several years. On October 6, she was elected treasurer. The Louisiana District Judges Association comprises all district judges in the state.

Celebrating the lives of East Carroll residents

I am so excited for ULM. The Warhawks (4-1, 2-0 Sun Belt Conference) handed undefeated James Madison (4-1, 0-1) its first loss of the season on Saturday night with a dramatic 21-19 victory at Malone Stadium. The win marks the first time a ULM football team has started 4-1 in the FBS era and is the best start since 1993.

Hannah Nicole Condrey, daughter of Wade and Erin Condrey of Lake Providence and Nicole Dukes of Prosper, Texas, and John Samuel Terral, son of Mechelle and the late Brad Terral of Delhi, Louisiana, announce their engagement.

Celebrating East Carroll lives

Happy fall, y’all. Although it really doesn’t feel like fall most of the time. But I’ll take this weather. It is cool at night and in the early mornings and gets hot during the day. Much better than being hot all the time. Whew!

East Carroll Parish deputies attended the annual conference of the Louisiana Homicide Investigators Association (LHIA) last week in Lake Charles. The conference offered a number of invaluable courses, including Suspect Interviews,The Business of Homicide, and Autopsies.
