Celebrating East Carroll lives

I woke up Monday morning and it was 63 degrees outside. So nice and cool. But then I went on to read the weather for the rest of the week, and it seems Tropical Storm Francine was scheduled to pay us a visit this week.

Celebrating the lives of those in East Carroll

Good morning. You know, the East Carroll Parish Library provides some great entertainment and educational programs for the parish. The end of the summer reading program was by no means the end of their agenda. Last week, I really enjoyed playing their version of “Name That Tune.” I would have won, too, if it hadn’t been for Jane Frith. There weren't a lot of us but we all had such a great time. If you’re not taking advantage of these opportunities, you’re really missing out.

Celebrating the lives of East Carroll

What a weekend we had in Lake Providence! Fun, laughter, reunions, and getting together with family and friends. Every day I would get an “excessive heat advisory” that usually expired within 12 to 13 hours. I’ve got news for them: it never expired. I know it’s been hotter before but it sure doesn’t seem like it. The hot weather didn’t stop our folks from celebrating our country’s independence, though.

Figs (Ficus carica), native to the Middle East and western Asia, have become naturalized in North America and are widely planted in Louisiana home gardens due to their ease of cultivation and nutritional value. With minimal effort, some yard space and plenty of sunshine, anyone can grow trees that produce figs every July.
