Church holds youth event

The Saint John M.B. Church held its Annual Youth Explosion 2024, Sunday, May 26 at 3:00 pm. The theme selected was “Youth on the Move for Christ.” Scripture: “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them.” Ecclesiastes 12:1 We believe that the youth are our future, and we should help and involve them in the cause of Christ just as adults. “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 Thanking God for His Grace and blessings. It allowed us to reach the youth which included severalchurchesboth near and far. The program included oratorical speaking, songs (choir and solos), praise dance, mime dancers, divine steppers, and much more. Youth are endowed with different and various gifts from the Lord, and we believe that they should have the opportunity to “let their light shine before men.”

911 director awarded for dedication

Debra Hopkins, director for East Carroll Parish 911, received the Breeden-Davis Dedication award earlier this month at the annual Louisiana Emergency Preparedness conference in Lake Charles. The award is given to people who work towards the safety and preparedness of their community.

School board celebrates students of the year

The East Carroll Parish School Board honored top students at all three public schools at its regular board meeting last week. From General Trass High School, Cadence Grey was named Student of the Year and Terry Douglas was named Runner-Up.

General Trass High School

General Trass High School celebrated its 2024 Commencement Exercises on Friday, May 10, at 6 p.m. Smiles lit the faces of 51 graduating members of General Trass High School’s Class of 2024, as they entered the high school auditorium to the traditional “Pomp and Circumstance”. Family and friends eagerly awaited on their feet as the seniors marched in precision to their appointed seats. “Nothing in Life Is Impossible as Long as You Take That First Step” was the captivating motto for the class of 2024.

Briarfield Academy

Briarfield Academy held their graduation ceremony last Friday, May 10, at 2:00 pm on the school’s front lawn. Head of School Lisa Walters announced that the sixteen graduates had been awarded and accepted approximately $500,000 in scholarship money. The following are each student’s plans for after graduation.

Greer - Fortenberry wedding

Emmy Lee Greer and James Thomas Fortenberry were wed March 23, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Rayville. Jeff Thomas officiated. The bride received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from University of Louisiana at Monroe, and is currently employed by SFMC P&S Surgery and Heart Center as a Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse. The groom received his Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from Louisiana State University, and is a Salesman at Nutrient Ag Solutions in Lake Providence.

Students inducted into honor society

Four juniors and 17 seniors at General Trass High School were honored for their high academic achievement at The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony, which was held on April 11 in the school's auditorium. The ceremony was open to the district, faculty, staff, students, family and friends.

Scholarship fund to hold awards program May 4

The public is invited to come and support local students who are vying for scholarships to be awarded by the John H. Scott Memorial Fund on Saturday, May 4. The program will be 10 a.m. to noon at the Tallulah-Madison Community Center, 800 N. Beech Street, Tallulah, La. Since 1982, the first Saturday in May has been a special day for northeast Louisiana college-bound high school seniors to be honored with awards in honor of Rev. John H. Scott, a long-time civil rights leader in northeast Louisiana.
