LP native focuses on addressing and healing childhood trauma

The Town of Lake Providence has officially made history as the first city in Louisiana to proclaim November as Childhood Trauma Awareness Month, marking a groundbreaking step toward healing, prevention, and community education.

Only two weeks left to determine winner

Two people got top scores this week – Milton Andrews and Zach Payne. So we had to go to the tiebreaker, which revealed that, for the second week in a row, Andrews was the weekly winner.

Hopkins remembers her mother's recipes

When my house caught fire three years ago, my mama’s notebook in which she wrote all of her recipes was partially destroyed. I was devastated. It had some of her best and most used recipes. Of course, a lot of her best recipes were not written down– like her chicken pot pie, banana pudding, chicken and rice, and the list goes on. But I still have a few of her favorites. The rest are just memories.

Sweet Potato Casserole

3 cups cooked mashed sweet potatoes 1 cup sugar 1/2 cup melted butter 2 eggs beaten 1tsp. Vanilla 1/2 cup milk Topping 1 cup light brown sugar ½ cup flour 1/3 cup butter 1 cup nuts Mix first six ingredients and pour into a buttered casserole dish.

Hot Crawfish Dip

1 lb. crawfish tails 3 bunches green onions 1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk 2 lbs.

Cornflake Candy

4 cups corn flakes 1 cup corn syrup (Karo) 1 cup sugar 12 oz. peanut butter Boil syrup and sugar.

Squash Dressing

¼ cup water 1 can cream of chicken soup 4 eggs (beaten) 3 cups cooked squash mashed 1 pan of cornbread 1 onion chopped 1 bell pepper chopped 3 pieces of celery chopped 1 stick of butter Salt and pepper to taste Saute onions, pepper and celery in butter until tender. Drain.

Church honors pastor

Central #1 Baptist Church, located at 39 Ransdell St., will honor its Pastor, Dr. Raymond C. Gill, on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. Guest Pastor will be Pastor Isaiah Ross and his churches. All are invited to attend. Dinner will be served.

Police investigate homicide

On Sunday, Nov. 9, Louisiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division - Monroe Field Office Detectives (LSP MFO) were requested by the East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) to investigate a homicide that occurred in the 1200 block of Second Street. The incident claimed the life of 18-yearold Tyson Jackson of Lake Providence.
