This September, the East Carroll Parish Library invites the community to celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month and explore how a single card can open the door to endless opportunities. With a library card, you can do more than check out books.

Charlene Dorsey Bailey has been working in retail in Lake Providence for well over 30 years. It’s safe to say that she has probably come in contact with most of the town’s residents while assistant manager at Jong’s SuperValu. Now she manages Gayle’s Market and serves as the newest member of the board of alderman for the town of Lake Providence. Last month, Bailey was appointed by the town to fill the seat vacated by Pat Roberson, who resigned for health reasons.

Arrests as of September 1, 2025: East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office: 8/21/25 - Linda Smith, 58, charged with simple theft, criminal trespassing. $1,500 bond.

A local woman is in jail after she was arrested and charged with shooting a man she was allegedly having a relationship with. East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Investigator Tystin White said that the sheriff’s office was notified by West Carroll Parish Sheriff’s deputies that the man had been discovered unconscious with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen on Copes Road in the Oak Grove area.
