Soul Food Festival organizers thank sponsors, participants

The annual Louisiana Soul Food and Heritage Festival was held on August 2 at the East Carroll Parish Courthouse Square. The event attracted attendees from Northeast Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas, all who enjoyed music, arts and crafts, and food prepared by vendors in ideal weather conditions.

Eighty years ago on September 2

Eighty years ago on September 2, Lake Providence resident Lee Broussard stood on the deck of the USS Missouri and witnessed the formal surrender of the Japanese, marking the end of World War II. Broussard will fly with his grandson, Jacob Broussard, to Honolulu for a memorial ceremony, joining seven other men who were also there that day in 1945. 'I'm excited and looking forward to seeing how many of my shipmates are still kicking,' he said.

Digging for historic relics yields treasures that teach

Ken Mobley, a member of the Northeast Louisiana Cajun Relic Diggers, was the guest speaker for the Lake Providence Rotary on July 30. Mobley was accompanied by fellow detector, Wesley Sullivan, and brought a loaded table of artifacts and objects he had uncovered utilizing a metal detector. “I just love to dig things,” Mobley said.

License lost due to unpaid child support?

As Child Support Awareness Month begins, the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) announces the return of its limited-time offer to help noncustodial parents who have lost their driver’s licenses due to unpaid child support get “On the Road Again” for a reduced fee. The promotion runs through September 30, 2025, and applies to licenses administratively suspended by DCFS.

Health clinic recognized for meeting quality standards

The Family Medical Clinic has been awarded four badges from the Community Health Quality Recognition (CHQR) group. CHQR badges are awarded yearly to health centers that meet badge eligibility, as well as criteria outlined for each badge. Awards are given based on the latest Uniform Data System (UDS) reporting year, and must meet the badge eligibility requirements.

Behavioral clinic adds to staff

The East Carroll Family Medical Behavioral Health has welcomed a new member to their team. Erica Watson, a registered nurse of 19 years now serves as the clinic’s Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
