The East Carroll Parish Library is making significant strides in disaster readiness, thanks to critical funding from the 2024 Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grant and the 2025 Emergency Readiness Grant. “Funding for these grants has been provided by the State of Louisiana and administered by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH).”

Arrests as of August 12, 2025: East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office: 8/5/25 - Wanda Stewart, 32, charged with disturbing the peace by fighting. Bond $350.

Aug. 11 just passed, and Louisiana 811 hopes that the 8/11 date on the calendar served as a natural reminder for residents to contact 811 prior to any digging project to have underground utility lines marked. Every few minutes, an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without first contacting 811.

Students in East Carroll Parish were given the opportunity to experience the “AHEC of a SUMMER” program at East Carroll Parish Hospital. Maya Baker, Ja’Kayla Gibson, Zy’Riah Nelson, Har'Mani Patterson, Zamoria Siggers, and Lacariuna Walker spent 15 days of rotations learning about health careers, educational requirements and what it takes to be a great healthcare provider.

Former Griffin Middle Academy Principal Dr. Kerry Gray has taken the helm as the new principal at General Trass High School for the 2025-26 school year. Originally from New Orleans. Dr. Gray brings a wealth of education and experience to the high school, as well as an educational vision that he says will bring the school technologically into the 21st century.
