Eighth grade students see STEM curriculum

When eighth graders return to school on August 14, they will walk through the front doors of General Trass High School, past the administrative offices, take a right, and find themselves at Star Academy.

Safer gas pipelines is intent of local work

By Debra Hopkins August 31 As a part of Atmos Energy's ongoing investment in the safety and reliability of their natural gas system, the company is continuing to modernize its infrastructure in Louisiana, including numerous outdated plastic pipelines in Lake Providence. According to a spokesperson with SEC, the pipeline company contracted to perform the gas line replacement, the lines that are being replaced have existed since the 1940s and 1950s.

Weather and turnout made a great festival

It was evident by whatever time attendees arrived at the Louisiana Soul Food Festival what their interests were at the hometown festival. If they arrived between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., you can bet they were all about the food and booths. But for those who waited until later in the afternoon, oh, it was all about the music. Either way, no one left disappointed, according to remarks from an enthusiastic crowd.

Hospital, jury agree on DA office rent

The East Carroll Parish Hospital Board and the East Carroll Parish Police Jury reached a final agreement in renting out the old Family Practice Clinic building located at 320 North Hood Street in Lake Providence. The hospital board had initially agreed to lend the building to the police jury and Sixth Judicial District Attorney’s office when problems were discovered in the building currently occupied by the DA’s office on Morgan Street.
