Yates-Herrington wedding

Lexi Yates of Oak Grove and Christian Herrington of Lake Providence exchanged vows on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Providence Church in Lake Providence. The 5 p.m. ceremony was immediately followed by a reception at the church.

Library has free passes

Library cardholders in all 64 parishes, including East Carroll Parish Library, can now enjoy free access to Louisiana’s State Parks through the expanded Check out Louisiana program. Through a partnership between the State Library and Louisiana State Parks, library patrons can check out a free day pass from their local library to visit any of Louisiana’s 21 state parks and 14 historic sites.

Games begin for Bayou League football program

By Debra Hopkins After months of intense planning and with a bevy of excited boys and girls, the Bayou League Football program is underway with its first games held Saturday mornings. Under the direction of organizers, Tystin White and Greg Campbell, the program gives the youth of Lake Providence activities during the summer months, as well as to teach them discipline and sportsmanship.

ELECTION:

In what had to be one of the most confusing elections in Louisiana history, voters went to the polls and placed two Democratic candidates and two Republican candidates for U.S. Senate in a run-off, while completely unseating an incumbent.

Students receive double diplomas

Five graduating seniors from General Trass High School will begin their college career with a head start after making history at the school. Kaleia Scott, Shamarion Hardmon, Laila Lucas, Da’Niyah Michelle Newell, and Ja’Nya K’Lyce Powell received their associate degrees in nursing assistance from the Southern University at Shreveport after graduation from General Trass High School.

No more inspection stickers?

Beginning January 1, 2027, motor vehicle inspection (MVI) stickers will no longer be required in most parishes in Louisiana, if a bill passes in the Louisian Legislature. The Louisiana Senate approved House Bill 1085 on May 13 by a vote of 27-7 to do away with the MVI sticker and replace it with a QR code sticker.

Flag retirement and memorial service set

The Memorial Day and Flag Retirement Ceremony is set for Monday, May 25, at Lakeside Park Gazebo beginning at 11:30 a.m. A brown bag lunch, sponsored by Moses Shelby Chapter NSDAR, will be held immediately after the ceremonies at Virginia Harris Hall at Grace Episcopal Church, across the street from Lakeside Park.
