Rebels and Panthers fight for gridiron glory

A ticket to the championship was on the line, and the Briarfield Rebels showed up. In a 38-16 win over Claiborne Academy, the team secured their spot in the championship game, the school’s fifth appearance at the top in eight years. And for the General Trass Panthers, they continue their playoff journey after schooling Centerville 6420. The Panthers continue to impress on the gridiron under Head Coach Toriano Wells’s leadership.

Panthers head to playoffs

The General Trass High School Panthers struck early and often last Friday night in their last regular season game before the playoffs. The Panthers amassed an impressive 58 points while holding the Delhi Bears to two touchdowns in a 5814 victory on the road. The Panthers will begin the first round of playoffs for 1A, District 2 Friday night with a home field advantage against Centerville.

Two weeks remain in 2024 football contest

The upsets just keep coming. No. 2 Georgia and No. 4 Miami both lost and dropped out of the top 10. LSU dropped to No. 21 after losing to Alabama and South Carolina knocked Vanderbilt out of the Top 25.

Briarfield's Aubree Jones signs softball letter of intent

Aubree Jones has led Briarfield’s softball program to three state championships in three years. She is a force on the mound, level-headed and consistent in pitching very fast balls, and is just as impressive at bat, her name regularly called out for homeruns. She hit the first grand slam in Briarfield softball history and followed that with a solo homerun in the same game to beat a 4A school. In the stands for that game was a coach from Meridian Community College. He followed up with Jones and made her an offer.

Briarfield softball season continues

The Briarfield Academy Lady Rebels dominated the North State softball finals this week in Magee, Mississippi, shutting out Hebron Christian, 12-0, allowing Claiborne Academy only one point, 13-1, and finishing their last win of the tournament with a 6-3 victory over Calhoun Academy.

Wins keep coming for BA

Briarfield continues to light up Friday nights with a big district win over Claiborne Academy last Friday. The final score was 58-30. Defensively the team kicked into gear in the second half after some halftime adjustments, limiting Claiborne to only one score.

Briarfield softball hoping to three-peat at state tourney

The Briarfield Academy Lady Rebels allowed the Tallulah Academy Lady Trojans only two runs in the finals at South State on Monday, taking an easy 21-1 victory over their rival team in the first game and a 13-1 win in the second to become South State champions at the Sports Complex in Sterlington.
